ESPN analyst Matt Miller has shared further details about the car accident that resulted in the life-saving amputation of his left arm. Miller, who covers the NFL Draft for the network, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital with severe injuries following the crash in Missouri last week. The incident involved multiple fractures and broken ribs.
According to local news outlet KOAM, the accident occurred on Missouri Route 96 when Miller, driving a 2023 Bronco, crossed the center line and collided with a semi-tractor trailer. The other driver, a 28-year-old man, was not injured.
Fresh details emerged through a GoFundMe page established for Miller, which he shared on his X account. The page stated that Miller sustained a compound fracture of his left femur, a shattered left kneecap, multiple broken ribs, and significant blood loss. Doctors performed an emergency amputation of his left arm to save his life. His head, neck, and spine were spared serious injury.
"While the road to recovery will be long and challenging, his determination and positive spirit have never wavered," the GoFundMe page noted. Miller is reportedly set to explore prosthetic options. As of this report, the fundraising campaign had raised over $21,450.
In a statement on X, the 42-year-old expressed gratitude for the care he received from first responders and medical staff. "I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this," Miller stated. He acknowledged the extensive recovery ahead, emphasizing a focus on taking things "one day at a time."
Miller, who joined ESPN in 2021 after a decade with Bleacher Report, expressed his anticipation of returning to the network to discuss football, including the upcoming 2027 NFL Draft class. He made his on-air debut for ESPN in 2023 and has appeared on shows such as NFL Live, SportsCenter, and Get Up!.
