Enzo Fernandez has been left out of Chelsea's matchday squad for their League Cup tie against Luton Town, fueling speculation about his future at the club amidst reported interest from Manchester City.
Manchester City is reportedly preparing a £100 million bid for the 25-year-old midfielder before the transfer window closes on September 1. However, Chelsea is said to be seeking £120 million and is expected to reject any offer that falls short of their valuation.
Despite the intensifying rumors, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso had stated on Wednesday that Fernandez was expected to be involved in the match. "Yes, so we expect that he's involved," Alonso said. "He’s trained, he's training really well, he's a good professional and he will be involved."
Alonso also addressed the uncertainty surrounding Fernandez's future, stating, "We want to have the best team possible. We know his qualities. He has shown it. We have to wait, but we will think about tomorrow and let's see how things develop."
Without Fernandez, Chelsea will aim to advance past their League One opponents and secure a spot in the third round of the competition, where they could face rivals Leeds United.
