Enzo Fernandez stated he is not contemplating his future at Chelsea, amidst speculation linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge and a reported denial of interest from Real Madrid. Fernandez scored the winning goal in Argentina's 3-2 victory over Egypt in the World Cup quarter-finals.
"I'm not thinking about my future now," Fernandez told DAZN after the match. "I'm here living this moment that is incredible for me and after the World Cup, we'll see."
Reports of Real Madrid's interest in Fernandez had circulated, but the Spanish club issued a strong public statement denying any pursuit of the midfielder. "Real Madrid wishes to state that it has not undertaken any action whatsoever, either directly or indirectly, aimed at signing the player," the statement read. "Furthermore, it has no intention of pursuing such a transfer."
Real Madrid expressed respect for Fernandez as a player and for Chelsea as a club, calling the transfer speculations "unfounded." The statement emphasized that the club's conduct is guided by principles of institutional loyalty.
Fernandez's agent, Javier Pastore, had previously indicated that his client might consider leaving Chelsea, mentioning a potential move to Real Madrid. However, reports suggest Chelsea had not received any formal contact from Real Madrid regarding Fernandez.
Real Madrid has recently completed a transfer with Chelsea, signing Marc Cucurella. During the World Cup, Cucurella had publicly encouraged Fernandez to join him at the Bernabeu.
Chelsea has consistently valued Fernandez at £120 million and has indicated a willingness to keep him if no acceptable offer is made. Fernandez himself has previously expressed a desire to live in Madrid, a sentiment that led to an internal ban from Chelsea last season under then-coach Liam Rosenior.
Other clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester City, have also been loosely linked with the midfielder.
