Times Square transformed into a vibrant spectacle as fans of Ecuador and Germany gathered hours before their World Cup match on Thursday. Supporters from both nations filled the Crossroads of the World, creating a lively atmosphere that included a spirited "battle of the bands."

Video footage captured crowds of fans from both teams banging drums and clashing symbols, punctuated by chants in their respective languages. Ecuadorian fans, dressed in bright yellow jerseys, were seen alongside German supporters sporting white T-shirts, with some German fans also donning large inflatable costumes. The gathering was part of a pre-game celebration leading up to the 4 p.m. kickoff.

Mateo Armijos, 25, who traveled from Cuenca, Ecuador, to support his national team, described the energy in Times Square as electric. He noted that the presence of numerous expatriates in the United States contributed to the vibrant atmosphere. Armijos, who also attended the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, remarked that the energy in New York City surpassed that of his previous experience.

"I think you can do a lot of things in New York. You never get bored, you can meet a lot of and go to a lot of places, and it’s a good city for young people. It’s chaotic, but it’s nice," Armijos stated.

The match between Ecuador and Germany was scheduled to take place at the NY/NJ Stadium as the final group round game for both teams. The two national teams, belonging to different confederations, have a limited history of matches, with Germany having secured the majority of victories in their previous encounters.
