Sophie Ecclestone made history on day one of the one-off Test match between England and India at Lord's, becoming England's all-time leading wicket-taker across all formats. The spinner claimed three wickets for 68 runs, surpassing Katherine Sciver-Brunt's record of 335 international scalps.

India was bowled out for 285 after electing to bat. Smriti Mandhana scored 83, and Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma added half-centuries. England finished the day at 21-1, trailing by 264 runs with Tammy Beaumont dismissed for two in her final international appearance.

England's bowlers showed signs of rustiness early on, attributed to a short turnaround from the T20 World Cup final held at the same venue the previous Sunday. Lauren Filer took a wicket on her Test debut at Lord's, removing Shafali Verma for a duck. Lauren Bell also contributed by bowling Yastika Bhatia. Mandhana capitalized on subsequent loose bowling, forming partnerships of 64 with Jemimah Rodrigues and 89 with Kaur.

India's momentum shifted after lunch when Amy Jones took a sharp catch to dismiss Mandhana off Issy Wong's bowling when India was at 190-3. Debutant Mady Villiers ended Harmanpreet Kaur's innings on 58, and Ecclestone then took the final three wickets to end India's innings.

Villiers finished with figures of 2-79. The pitch showed signs of offering assistance to spinners, and with high temperatures expected to continue for the remaining three days, England's batters face a challenging prospect.
