The Philadelphia Eagles continued their downward spiral Sunday Night Football, losing to the Washington Commanders 27-10. The defeat marks the Eagles' sixth consecutive loss. After establishing an early 10-0 lead, Philadelphia failed to score again as Washington surged back with 27 unanswered points.
Philadelphia's initial momentum came from a Jake Elliott field goal and a Saquon Barkley touchdown following a Washington turnover. However, the offense stalled, and the Commanders, led by quarterback Jayden Daniels and kicker Drew Stevens, took control of the game. Stevens contributed a 56-yard field goal and a 39-yard kick before halftime, while Daniels connected with Stefon Diggs for an eight-yard touchdown, giving Washington a 13-10 lead at the break.
Eagles' quarterback Tanner McKee struggled in the absence of Jalen Hurts, who is reportedly out for the season with blood clots in his lungs. McKee held the ball for extended periods, took sacks, and committed two turnovers. Without Hurts, Washington's defense focused on stopping Barkley, limiting him to 30 rushing yards on 13 carries.
A critical turning point occurred in the third quarter when Dorance Armstrong sacked McKee, with Charles Omenihu recovering the fumble. Daniels then completed a 53-yard pass to Treylon Burks, setting up a 25-yard field goal for Stevens.
Philadelphia's offensive struggles were compounded by costly penalties. An illegal formation penalty on Jordan Mailata nullified an apparent 36-yard field goal attempt by Elliott in the fourth quarter. Pushed back five yards, Elliott missed the subsequent attempt wide right. Washington sealed the victory with a 42-yard field goal from Stevens and an interception of McKee by Rasul Douglas.
Washington extended their lead with a 33-yard run and a one-yard touchdown run by Rachaad White, followed by a successful two-point conversion. Daniels finished the game with 217 passing yards, one touchdown, and no turnovers.
The loss drops the Eagles to a 2-6 record, while the Commanders improve to 2-4-1, moving them out of last place in the NFC East.
