Eddie Dunbar of Ireland has won the 19th stage of the Vuelta a Espana, a hilly 210.8km route from Velez-Malaga to Penas Blancas. Dunbar, 30, overtook Santiago Buitrago of Colombia with 300 meters remaining in the stage to claim the victory.

Buitrago, who is the King of the Mountains leader, had attacked from a four-man breakaway group with two kilometers to the finish line. Dunbar, riding for Pinarello-Q36.5, initially did not respond but launched a well-timed counter-attack to finish 14 seconds ahead of Buitrago. Thomas Gloag, a British teammate of Dunbar, finished third.

In the general classification, Spain's Enric Mas continues to lead the race. Despite efforts from rivals Primoz Roglic and Richard Carapaz to gain time, particularly on the 18km climb to the finish, Mas maintained his advantage. Roglic had closed the gap by 33 seconds during the previous day's time trial. Mas holds a lead of one minute and 37 seconds over his nearest rivals.

Britain's Oscar Onley finished with the main contenders, retaining his fifth overall position and the white jersey awarded to the best young rider.

The Vuelta a Espana has two stages remaining. Mas, a three-time runner-up in the Vuelta, will aim to secure his first Grand Tour title when the race concludes on Sunday with a 112km stage in Granada. Saturday's 186.8km mountain stage from La Calahorra to Collado del Alguacil is expected to be another key battleground for the general classification.
