The Miami Dolphins have continued to overhaul their quarterback room, cutting undrafted rookie Mark Gronowski just days after he sustained a jarring tackle in a preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.
The move is part of a larger shake-up that has left the Dolphins with only two quarterbacks on their roster as they finalize 53-man rosters. Gronowski, an undrafted player out of Iowa, was waived over the weekend.
This decision follows a play where Gronowski was attempting to recover a fumble when a Falcons player dove on top of him. The impact caused the quarterback to bend backward unnaturally, leading some observers to compare the hit to him being "folded like a lawn chair." Despite the concerning nature of the tackle, Gronowski was not injured and remained in the game.
Gronowski's departure is one of four transactions the Dolphins made at the quarterback position over the weekend. On Saturday, the team traded Quinn Ewers, who started three games last season, to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round pick. Ewers completed 66 percent of his passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions during his time with Miami.
Initially, the Dolphins appeared to be set to keep Gronowski and second-year player Cam Miller. However, both were released by Sunday morning. Miller, a 2025 sixth-round draft pick by the Raiders, had joined the Dolphins late last season.
With all three quarterbacks gone, Miami sought a backup for projected starter Malik Willis. Shortly after cutting Gronowski and Miller, the Dolphins acquired Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a sixth-round pick. McCord, a second-year player from Syracuse, is now on his third NFL team after being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025. He is expected to serve as Willis's backup for the upcoming season, in which the Dolphins are projected to be among the league's lowest-ranked teams.
