Dodgers free agent relief pitcher Alex Vesia has debuted a new look this offseason, shedding his distinctive beard. The change comes as his future with the Los Angeles Dodgers remains uncertain.
Vesia, who has been a key part of the Dodgers' bullpen for six seasons, was filmed by his wife, Kayla, shaving his beard. The relief pitcher has opted for a clean-shaven appearance, a significant departure from his previous style.
This offseason marks a period of transition for Vesia, who, along with seven other Dodgers free agents, hit the open market at the end of the 2026 season. He is considered one of the most critical free agents for the team to address this winter, second only to Tarik Skubal.
Since joining the Dodgers in 2021, Vesia has been a consistent presence in the bullpen, recording a 2.64 ERA over 72 appearances in the most recent season. Following the Dodgers' elimination from the National League Championship Series, Vesia shared a heartfelt message with fans on Instagram, reflecting on the personal challenges he faced during the season.
"By far the hardest year of my career. It’s hard to put into words what this season was like. Personal battles with confidence, expectations and highs and lows mentally. I can’t thank my teammates enough for picking me up on down days and dealing with my crazy a– on my high ones," Vesia wrote.
Earlier in the season, Vesia had acknowledged that the 2026 season might be his last with the Dodgers. The team faces decisions regarding several other bullpen members who are also free agents, including Blake Treinen and Evan Phillips. Despite these uncertainties, there is hope among fans that the front office will work to retain these key players.
