The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated outfielder Teoscar Hernández from the injured list, reinstating the veteran slugger ahead of their series opener against the Oakland Athletics. Hernández returns Monday, a little over a month after suffering a hamstring strain in late May.

With Hernández's return, the Dodgers optioned rookie outfielder Ryan Ward to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Ward had been filling an outfield role during Hernández's absence, with his batting average dipping to .218 during his first extended stretch in the majors. Although Ward had some notable moments, including his first three career MLB home runs, the everyday left field job is expected to shift back to Hernández.

Hernández began the season with a significant slump, batting just .202 through most of April and early May. However, after being moved to the No. 8 spot in the batting order on May 11, his performance improved considerably. He collected 20 hits in his next 55 at-bats and ended a nearly month-long home run drought with three long balls in a six-game span.

The hamstring strain, sustained while attempting to leg out an infield single, was a frustrating setback for Hernández. Unlike a mid-season groin strain the previous year, which saw him return prematurely and struggle in the second half, both Hernández and the team prioritized a full recovery this time. This approach appeared successful, as he hit three home runs in a four-game rehab stint with Triple-A Oklahoma City last week. His return provides the Dodgers with a key offensive piece as the team navigates a season marked by numerous injuries.
