Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon semifinals, with the world number one advancing to face Alexander Zverev in the final. Djokovic, a multiple-time Wimbledon champion, lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, in a match that lasted two hours and 20 minutes.
Despite battling through a shoulder injury and a lengthy previous match, Djokovic showed resilience, saving 10 of the 13 break points he faced. However, Sinner's consistent pressure proved too much, particularly on Djokovic's second serve, on which the Serbian won only a single point in the first set.
Sinner displayed a dominant performance, hitting 16 aces and frequently putting Djokovic on the defensive. Djokovic acknowledged that he was outplayed, stating, "I just lost to a better player." He expressed his disappointment but also indicated a desire to return to Wimbledon.
"I would like to, at least one more time," Djokovic said when asked about his future at the tournament. "Of course, I'm disappointed. I wanted to win Wimbledon. That's the reason why I still push myself so hard."
Djokovic, who will be nearly 40 next year, emphasized that he still has the drive and ability to compete at the highest level. "No one is forcing me to play. I do it because I really want to and because I still can. I proved to myself and others that I can still play at the highest level."
Sinner's victory comes after a tournament where he had shown some uneven form, including needing five sets in his first-round match and winning four tie-breaks en route to the semifinals. The Italian stated he knew he had to raise his level for the match against Djokovic. "Against Novak, you need to play your best tennis."
Sinner will now compete for his second Grand Slam title against French Open champion Alexander Zverev in the final, aiming to become the 10th man to win back-to-back singles titles at Wimbledon.
