Dillon Gabriel has reportedly earned a spot on the Cleveland Browns' 53-man roster for the upcoming season. The second-year quarterback is expected to slot in behind starter Deshaun Watson and backup Shedeur Sanders on the depth chart.
Gabriel, whom the Browns selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, concluded a strong preseason with his most notable performance in a 37-13 victory over the New England Patriots. In that game, he completed 13 of 20 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with Malachi Corley, Luke Floriea, and Joe Royer for scores. This performance reportedly solidified his position on the team.
Gabriel's college career included stints at UCF and Oklahoma, culminating in a productive 2024 season at Oregon. During his time with the Ducks, he completed 72.9 percent of his passes for 3,857 yards, with 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also holds the NCAA Division I/FBS all-time record for passing touchdowns with 155.
Head coach Todd Monken announced on August 24 that Watson would start the Browns' season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 13, stating that the veteran quarterback gives the team their "best chance to win." Watson's preseason statistics included 16 completions on 27 attempts for 162 yards, with one interception and no touchdowns. Sanders finished his preseason appearances with 15 completions on 22 attempts for 153 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Sanders was selected by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft and competed with Gabriel for playing time as rookies. Gabriel's continued presence on the roster marks his second season with the team.
