Memphis Depay has publicly accused his former club, Corinthians, of "unacceptable behaviour" for allegedly failing to honor an agreement to extend his contract. The Dutch international, who joined the Brazilian side in 2024 on a two-year deal, stated on social media that he is "very disappointed" that the club decided against renewing his contract, which he claims was explicitly agreed upon by senior club officials.

Depay, a former player for Manchester United, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid, expressed that while he did not desire this outcome and had always respected the club, he is now compelled to take strong action to protect his interests. He indicated that he would speak further on the matter in the coming days and would not leave the situation "unsanctioned."

During his tenure with Corinthians, Depay scored 20 goals in 79 appearances. He was part of the team that won the Copa do Brasil in 2025 and the Supercopa do Brasil in the current year.

Corinthians, in their statement, cited financial reasons for their decision not to extend Depay's contract. The club explained that a new commitment of the magnitude proposed would not be compatible with the financial balance required to ensure the institution's sustainability. They acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but deemed it necessary for the future of the club. Corinthians' president, Osmar Stabile, is scheduled to hold a press conference to address the matter.
