Australian singer Delta Goodrem's performance at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony in Glasgow has divided viewers, with some questioning why she received more prominent stage time than Scottish artists. Goodrem performed a medley of her hits and a duet with Scottish singer Cammy Barnes.

Some viewers expressed on social media that a Scottish or local artist should have been given a larger role. "Should have a Scottish/English singer," one viewer commented, while another added, "Should have got someone from Glasgow, or England at least." Another suggested, "As a Kiwi I couldn't understand why Delta (whom I do like) was the first entertainer—surely Scotland should have been the one."

Others defended Goodrem, emphasizing her talent and the context of her appearance. "She sang three songs ... and people are angry over it?" one user asked. "Pretty sure she didn't plan the ceremony," another added. Supporters praised her rendition of "You're the Voice" with Barnes, calling it "perfect."

Goodrem's inclusion acknowledged Australia's connection to the Games, which were originally slated for Victoria before the Australian state withdrew as host. Glasgow stepped in to host the event. The performance also marked 20 years since Goodrem performed at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games and highlighted her appearances at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.

Goodrem stated it was an honor to represent Australia, noting the strong ties between the Games and her home country. She also mentioned her Scottish heritage, with her father's family having emigrated from Scotland to Victoria. "Glasgow audiences are incredible," she said, anticipating her return for her world tour. "I'm coming back Glasgow next year starting my world tour here warm, passionate and great sing alongs."

Goodrem said it was an enormous privilege to represent Australia again on a major international sporting stage abroad

Australia concluded the Games at the top of the medal table with 171 medals. The closing ceremony concluded with a performance by Simple Minds, followed by fireworks. The Commonwealth Games baton was then passed to Ahmedabad, India, the host for the 2030 Games.
