Danny Green, a former San Antonio Spurs player and 2014 NBA champion, has voiced his strong disapproval of the team's decision to fire play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey. The dismissal followed allegations of an affair between Tobey and Loren Waters, the sister of current Spurs player Lindy Waters III.
Green, who spent eight years with the Spurs organization, expressed his disappointment on his podcast, "No FoulsseparatedBy. "I love everything the Spurs do and how they operate as an organization," Green said. "They run a tight ship. They don’t deal with no BS, and they don’t like drama, so I understand certain issues. They’re going to be like, ‘No, we can’t allow this.’ To me, this was not one of those issues."
He further elaborated that the situation did not warrant termination, distinguishing it from more serious offenses. "This is not a domestic violence case," Green stated. "He didn’t beat anybody up. He wasn’t loitering or DUI or anything crazy. You know he has a relationship that is behind closed doors, this is his personal life."
Tobey's personal life became public when his ex-girlfriend allegedly took control of his Instagram account and posted details of the alleged affair on his story, including a photo that appeared to show Tobey and Waters kissing. The post reportedly read, "This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :)"
Green questioned the fairness of the Spurs' process in dismissing Tobey. "We don’t know what the timetable of it was, if he was with this girl or not, or if he was even dating his girl at the time while he was with this girl," he said. "His girl could have made it up, and she hacked his social media, and she wanted to ruin his life, and you allowed that to happen."
As of the report, Tobey has not publicly commented on the situation. His Instagram and X accounts have been made private.
