Daniel Maldini, son of Italian football legend Paolo Maldini, was taken to the hospital following a car crash on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. local time, just hours after the 24-year-old attacking midfielder scored the winning goal for Cagliari in their Serie A match against Atalanta.
Maldini netted a penalty on Saturday night to secure a 2-1 victory for Cagliari. He was then involved in a collision while driving his Porsche Carrera. Reports indicate that six people were involved in the crash, which involved two vehicles.
Minor injuries were sustained by those involved, with three ambulances and a medical car responding to the scene. Five individuals, including Maldini, were transported to a hospital for evaluation. Maldini was reportedly treated at Milan's Fatebenefratelli facility, while the sixth person received treatment at the crash site.
The incident followed a notable performance for Maldini, who is currently on loan at Cagliari from Atalanta. It marked his second goal in four league appearances this season, contributing to Cagliari's strong start and current fourth-place standing in Serie A.
Maldini has previously played for clubs including AC Milan, where his father Paolo served as technical director, and Monza. He left AC Milan in 2024 seeking more consistent playing time. He has also earned six caps for the Italian national team. Cagliari is scheduled to play Udinese next Saturday.
