The Chicago Cubs have acquired right-handed pitcher Kevin Gausman from the Toronto Blue Jays, according to reports. The deal was confirmed shortly after 9 p.m. on August 1, less than 24 hours before the Major League Baseball trade deadline.

The Cubs will send outfielder Brett Bateman and infielder Ty Southisene to Toronto as part of the trade. Gausman, a veteran starter, adds depth to the Cubs' pitching rotation, which has playoff experience. This season, Gausman has posted a 4.38 earned run average over 23 starts.

The acquisition is seen as a move to strengthen the Cubs' roster as they approach the trade deadline, aiming to enhance their chances in the upcoming postseason.
