Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that he will "probably" retire from professional football at the conclusion of the current season. The 41-year-old made the remarks in a recent interview discussing his wedding to long-time girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.
Ronaldo stated that he plans to "leave a spectacular legacy" and has his future mapped out, with numerous activities to occupy his time after football. "Football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one," he explained. "And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, and continue to enjoy what I've earned - what we've earned. Because after all it's been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice."
The interview followed Ronaldo's marriage to Rodriguez in Portugal on August 11, which coincided with the 10-year anniversary of their first meeting. The private ceremony took place at their home.
Ronaldo's career has spanned three decades, beginning with his debut for Sporting Lisbon 24 years ago. He went on to play for prominent clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus before moving to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr three years ago. Earlier this summer, Ronaldo appeared to signal the end of his World Cup participation with Portugal's exit from the tournament. However, with Portugal set to co-host the 2030 World Cup, a final appearance at age 45 had remained a possibility.
