Goalkeeper Craig Gordon has announced his retirement from football, bringing an end to a 25-year playing career.
Gordon, 43, concluded his second stint with his first club, Heart of Midlothian, this summer and was part of Scotland's World Cup squad. His career began at Tynecastle before he moved to Sunderland in 2007 for a then British record fee of £9 million for a goalkeeper. During his time at the Stadium of Light, he made a notable save against Bolton Wanderers' Zat Knight in 2010, which became one of the most famous in Premier League history. However, a significant knee injury hampered his time in Sunderland, leading to a two-year period away from the game for rehabilitation and coaching.
He joined Celtic in 2014, securing his first league title and adding four more during a successful six-year spell before returning to Hearts. A double leg break in 2022 sidelined him again, but the veteran goalkeeper recovered to resume playing.
