Conor McGregor has promised fans "We will be back" following a disappointing performance and a significant leg injury sustained during UFC 329. The fighter, who recently turned 38, shared an emotional video message with his wife, Dee Devlin, while testing a new energy drink. McGregor appeared teary-eyed as he made the sign of the cross and spoke about his future.
The injury occurred in the opening seconds of his main event fight against Max Holloway on July 11. McGregor attempted a jumping switch kick to Holloway's head, but the maneuver did not land correctly, and he appeared to injure his knee. UFC President Dana White told reporters that the UFC "assumes it’s a blown ACL," based on their doctors' assessment.
Despite the apparent severity, McGregor was not seen in an air cast, suggesting he may have avoided the worst-case scenario. However, medical professionals indicate that a torn meniscus can result in a recovery period of three to six months, while tears to the ACL or MCL could require a year or more of rehabilitation.
This injury complicates McGregor's contractual situation. He has one fight remaining on his UFC contract before becoming eligible for free agency. The injury is a significant setback to his plans, particularly as this marks his third major leg injury of his career. His previously anticipated final fight on his contract in April 2027 is now uncertain.
