Conor McGregor has undergone successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the UFC fighter announced via social media. The injury occurred during his welterweight fight against Max Holloway on July 11, which lasted just 69 seconds.
McGregor shared a video update stating, "My knee is repaired, surgery was a success, and I’m on the road to recovery." He expressed confidence in his mindset, adding, "My mindset is unstoppable, unbreakable. Thank you God."
The fighter cited fellow athletes who have returned from ACL tears, including mixed martial artists Dominick Cruz and Georges St. Pierre, as well as NFL player Tom Brady and former NFL player Adrian Peterson, for motivation.
This marks McGregor's second significant injury in recent years. In July 2021, he lost a bout to Dustin Poirier due to a leg injury. He has won only one fight since 2020.
McGregor described the injury, which occurred during an aggressive opening to his fight against Holloway, as unexpected. "I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks... This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell," he posted on X shortly after the event.
