Coco Gauff provided a glimmer of hope for American tennis fans at the U.S. Open on Saturday, advancing to the Round of 16 with a decisive win. The No. 4 seed defeated Spain's Cristina Bucșa in straight sets, with a final score of 6-3, 6-4.
Gauff's performance stood out on a challenging day for other American players. Earlier in the day, Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, and Taylor Fritz were all eliminated from their respective singles competitions. Gauff, who is the reigning U.S. Open champion from 2023, made quick work of Bucșa.
Gauff is scheduled to play either Iva Jovic or Alexandra Eala in her next match.
