Coco Gauff, the reigning US Open champion and current No. 4 seed, has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 U.S. Open, defeating 18-year-old Iva Jovic in an all-American showdown. Gauff secured the win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Despite Jovic, ranked No. 14 in the world, breaking Gauff's serve in the opening game, Gauff quickly asserted dominance. The 2023 champion responded by winning six consecutive games to clinch the first set in just 30 minutes. Jovic managed to win her first service game of the second set, but Gauff maintained her composure.

The match saw several momentum shifts in the second set, with both players engaging in lengthy rallies. However, Gauff ultimately proved superior, breaking Jovic's serve when it mattered most and serving out the match at 5-4.

This marks Gauff's continued pursuit of a second US Open title. Her next opponent in the quarterfinals will be Mirra Andreeva, the 19-year-old French Open champion.

For Jovic, this fourth-round appearance was her deepest run in the U.S. Open to date. Two years prior, Jovic's U.S. Open debut ended in the second round under challenging conditions on Court 12, where she struggled with the heat.
