Clemson defensive tackle Vic Burley has been suspended indefinitely from the team following his arrest early Saturday morning on a disorderly conduct charge. The suspension comes just two weeks before the Tigers are set to begin their season on the road against LSU.
Head Coach Dabo Swinney confirmed the arrest and subsequent suspension in a statement Saturday. "Earlier today, I was made aware of defensive tackle Vic Burley's arrest by the Clemson University Police Department for disorderly conduct," Swinney said. "I have made the decision to suspend Vic from our football team indefinitely. We are extremely disappointed by his actions and decisions."
The exact circumstances leading to Burley's arrest remain unclear. The charge of disorderly conduct is the only information currently available regarding the incident.
Burley, a five-star recruit from Warner Robins, Georgia, is entering his fourth season with the Clemson program. He was expected to play a significant role on the interior defensive line this season, particularly after Peter Woods was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Burley missed his entire freshman season due to a knee injury. In 2025, he appeared in 13 games, making one start. He also missed a portion of recent training camp with an undisclosed injury but had returned to the team and was anticipated to be healthy for the September 5th game against LSU.
The Tigers are looking to improve on their performance in the 2025 season, during which they missed the playoffs. The timing of Burley's suspension adds significant uncertainty as the team prepares for its season opener.
