Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, listing debts exceeding $3.45 million, according to multiple reports. Rice filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, claiming over $2.1 million in debts stemming from civil lawsuits related to a 2024 multi-car crash in Dallas.
Rice listed his total personal property assets at $677,054, which includes his Super Bowl LVIII ring. He won the ring on February 11, 2024, when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.
The filing indicates that Rice's largest creditor is associated with the 2024 crash, with a debt of $979,837. Additional debts include $700,000 related to lawsuits filed by victims of the crash and $200,000 owed to an ex-girlfriend in a lawsuit alleging abuse. Rice also owes $185,226.45 to his attorney, Thomas McMurray, for which he has pledged his Super Bowl ring, valued at $160,000, as collateral.
Further debts listed include $207,104.40 to First National Bank of Middle Tennessee for a personal guarantee on business debt. Among his other listed assets are a 2023 Mercedes-Benz valued at $53,800 and $13,600 in checking accounts.
Rice, 26, is in the final year of his rookie contract. He has played in five games this season, recording 20 catches for 243 yards and two touchdowns. He previously pleaded guilty in 2025 to two third-degree felonies related to the 2024 crash, receiving five years of probation and a 30-day jail sentence. The NFL also suspended him for six games at the start of the 2025 season for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
