Chelsea has reportedly reached an agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, with a fee of £7.5 million cited. This potential move marks the fourth transaction between the two clubs this summer.
Martinez has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements at Villa Park since the club acquired Zion Suzuki from Parma earlier this month. The departure of the Argentina international could free up significant space on Aston Villa's wage bill, as he is listed among the club's highest earners. This move, along with potential exits for Lucas Digne, Ollie Watkins, and Youri Tielemans, would further facilitate financial flexibility for Aston Villa.
The funds and wage space created by these player sales could be allocated towards new signings, including Nicolas Jackson and Leon Goretzka. Aston Villa is also reportedly pursuing AC Milan forward Rafael Leao, though their financial offer is understood to be lower than that of Galatasaray. Villa's management hopes that the prospect of playing in the Premier League will influence Leao's decision.
