Chelsea is on the verge of securing a significant front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with U.S.-based Circle Internet Group, a digital currency company. This potential agreement marks the end of the club's long search for a primary sponsor since their previous deal with "Three" concluded at the end of the 2022-23 season.
The proposed partnership is expected to be for an initial one-year term, with an option for extension if both parties are satisfied. The deal would feature the Circle's USDC (US Dollar Coin) logo in yellow font on the front of the men's, women's, and academy team shirts across all competitions, aiming to match the current season's aesthetic. While financial details are not publicly disclosed, Chelsea had reportedly targeted a value of approximately £50 million per season for the main shirt sponsorship.
Club insiders are reportedly optimistic that sponsorship revenue for the current season will exceed initial budget expectations, with discussions also progressing for a sleeve sponsorship agreement. Chelsea has prioritized aligning with a company that resonates with their values, and they believe Circle, a recognized entity in the fintech sector, fits this requirement. Circle's USDC is described as a regulated, dollar-backed stablecoin designed to facilitate faster cross-border money transfers online.
If confirmed, the new sponsorship would see the Circle logo displayed on Chelsea's shirts as early as their upcoming match against Brighton at Stamford Bridge. The club has begun the past three consecutive seasons with a blank space on their jerseys following the termination of their agreement with "Three." That deal, valued at an estimated £40 million annually, was suspended following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which led to the club's sale by former owner Roman Abramovich.
The agreement with Circle represents a potential boost for the club under new manager Xabi Alonso, who began his tenure with a 3-2 victory against Fulham.
