Chelsea Football Club was compelled to remove a social media post featuring midfielder Enzo Fernandez celebrating his goal for Argentina against England in the World Cup semi-final, following a significant backlash from its fanbase. The post, which included a photo of Fernandez's equalizer with an "explosion emoji," drew immediate criticism from supporters who viewed it as inappropriate for an English club.

England had taken the lead in the match with Anthony Gordon's early goal, but Fernandez leveled the score late in the game with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Lautaro Martinez later scored a stoppage-time winner for Argentina, securing a 2-1 victory and advancing the reigning world champions to the final.

Following the equalizer, Chelsea's official social media account shared a photo of Fernandez's celebration. This action prompted a swift negative reaction from many English fans. Comments on the post included sentiments such as, "Seriously. We’re an English football club. Poor from my club. Poor," and "Why the f*** are you posting this as an English club when he scored against England."

Some fans also referenced Fernandez's past flirtations with a move away from Chelsea, expressing disappointment with the club's decision to highlight a player they felt was not fully committed. "Read the room, disgusting. Especially when that player would spit at us at any opportunity," one comment read.

In response to the wave of critical feedback, Chelsea ultimately decided to delete the post from their social media channels.
