Defending US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz generated considerable excitement among fans after removing his shirt and undershirt following his third-round victory on Friday. The gesture came after Alcaraz defeated Wu Yibing in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Spectators in the front rows of the venue were observed capturing the moment with their smartphones. This occurred just days after Alcaraz's outfit in his first-round match, a collaboration with Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Nike brand, had previously drawn attention due to his nipple repeatedly becoming exposed.
Alcaraz addressed the earlier incident, stating he added an undershirt for his third-round match because he felt he had been "seeing my nipple too much lately." He added that wearing the extra layer felt comfortable and that he intended to continue with it. "Maybe, you know, the second round was, a little bit distracting for me, but not that much," he commented.
Despite the minor wardrobe adjustments, Alcaraz has maintained a dominant performance in the tournament, having lost only one set through his initial three matches. His next challenge will be against American Tommy Paul, the No. 20 seed, on Sunday.
