Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love is expected to miss at least one week of training camp due to a sore ankle, head coach Mike LaFleur announced Saturday. The injury occurred during Love's preseason debut on Thursday, where the Cardinals defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 27-14.
Love, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, rushed for 58 yards on 11 carries and added three receptions for 14 yards in the game. He is not anticipated to play in the Cardinals' next preseason matchup against the Cowboys.
"We'll keep him out this week, as we let it heal," LaFleur said. "A little bit more sore than we were anticipating."
Love arrived in Arizona with significant expectations following a successful college career at Notre Dame. He was a consensus All-American in his final collegiate season, earning the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back. He also set a rookie contract record for guaranteed money for a running back, signing a four-year, $53 million deal.
The Cardinals' running back depth has been tested by injuries, as veteran James Conner is still recovering from a foot injury that sidelined him for most of last season. Other backs on the roster include Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight, who may see increased opportunities if Love's absence extends.
With the regular season opener against the Chargers on September 13, Love still has time to recover and prepare for his professional debut.
