Krystian Bielik, a defender for Cardiff City F.C., was involved in an on-field altercation with a fan during a Saturday match, prompting an apology from the opposing team's head coach.

Around the 72nd minute of the Championship fixture, with Cardiff trailing, Bielik approached a fan in the stands to retrieve the ball. Video footage appeared to show the 28-year-old player making contact near the spectator's throat. It remains unclear who initiated physical contact first.

However, Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho stated that Bielik was struck by a fan. "The referee said that, as Krystian went to get the ball, there was a little bit of a kerfuffle and one of the supporters struck him," Mousinho told reporters after the match. "It wasn’t a good incident... we extend our apologies to the players, Cardiff and make sure we can try to cut it out."

Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy corroborated that Bielik was "slapped in the face." He added, "I’m sure the club and the FA will look at this and implement the correct process."

Even if the fan made initial contact, it is uncertain whether Bielik could face disciplinary action for his subsequent actions.

Later in the match, another fan reportedly attempted to throw the ball at Bielik but instead struck a Cardiff teammate. Portsmouth secured a 2-0 victory in the match, with goals from Conor Shaughnessy and Marko Milovanovic. Cardiff City, recently promoted back to the Championship, is currently 22nd in the league standings, while Portsmouth is 14th.
