The United States men's national soccer team's World Cup exit has drawn sharp criticism from Canadian broadcasters Steven Caldwell and Kevin Kilbane of TSN, who described the team as "overhyped" and suggested their performance against Belgium was not surprising.

Following the USMNT's 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 16, Caldwell stated on air that the team "completely failed" when playing against a top-tier opponent on a significant stage. Kilbane echoed this sentiment, questioning the team's standing before the tournament and noting that their victories were against teams they were expected to beat.

"Outclassed in every department. They’ve been schooled by a top-class side," Kilbane commented, referencing the loss to Belgium. He added that the teams the USMNT defeated in the group stage were lesser opponents, and the team was ultimately "demolished" by Belgium.

The USMNT's performance has been characterized by porous defense and uninspired play, according to reports. Belgium took an early lead in the match nine minutes in with a goal from Charles De Ketelaere. Although Malik Tillman equalized for the USMNT, De Ketelaere quickly restored Belgium's lead, and the team never relinquished control, ultimately securing a 4-1 victory.

Despite the pre-tournament expectations and hype surrounding the current USMNT squad, their Round of 16 elimination mirrors the outcome of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where they lost to the Netherlands in the same stage. The team also saw similar results in previous tournaments, including a loss to Belgium in 2014 in the Round of 16.

Canada, another co-host of the upcoming World Cup, also exited the tournament in the Round of 16 after a 3-0 loss to Morocco. The USMNT's inability to advance further in the competition continues to be a point of discussion among analysts and commentators.
