Darts player Cameron Menzies was forced to withdraw from his second-round match at the World Matchplay on Wednesday evening after suffering a health scare on stage.
Menzies was competing against Ross Smith when he appeared to sway and look faint, prompting a halt to the game. He was seen speaking to a tournament official and bending over before being helped off the stage by his opponent.
Presenters on Sky Sports informed viewers that Menzies was being attended to by St. John's Ambulance and that medics were assessing his condition. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) later confirmed that Menzies had been withdrawn from the tournament due to illness.
A PDC statement read: "Cameron Menzies is unable to continue his Round Two clash after being taken unwell. Ross Smith progresses to the Quarter-Finals as a result."
Further updates from the PDC revealed that Menzies had been experiencing high blood pressure, which caused him to feel dizzy and faint. Following an assessment by the on-site medical team, he was deemed well enough to return to his accommodation. The organization wished Menzies well and expressed anticipation for his return to play.
