Bubba Watson intervened during LIV Golf’s event in Indianapolis on Friday, confronting a fan who shouted during Lee Westwood's pre-shot routine. The incident occurred at The Club at Chatham Hills as Watson, Westwood, and Bryson DeChambeau were playing their round.
The spectator’s shout disrupted Westwood’s preparation, causing him to step away from his ball. Video footage captured an agitated Watson walking toward the rope line and directly addressing the fan. "Oh, you don't want to say anything now? Say something, I'm looking at you, say it," Watson said.
Another voice from the crowd could be heard responding, "I love you Bubba." Watson held his stare for a moment before returning to the course.
This event marks LIV Golf’s final tournament of the 2026 season, a year marked by significant transition for the league. The tour's future has been a subject of discussion following the Saudi Public Investment Fund's announcement of its withdrawal of financial backing. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil has been actively seeking new investment to ensure the tour’s continuation.
Earlier in August, LIV Golf announced it had secured new investment, though specific details have not been widely released. DeChambeau, speaking on the LIV broadcast after the final round, expressed optimism about the league's prospects. "I have great thoughts about what could happen next year," he said. "I wish I could be more up front about it, but ultimately, I’m proud of the fact of what we’ve done."
DeChambeau acknowledged that "not everything was perfect" but stated that the tour had "done a solid job" and "did something different in the game of golf."
