Bronny James and Cameron Carr have been assigned to the South Bay Lakers, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers, for their season opener. This move is intended to provide both players with more playing time as they continue their development.
The South Bay Lakers faced the Salt Lake City Stars on Friday at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert.
Carr, the 24th pick in June's NBA draft, has seen limited action with the main Lakers squad, playing a combined four minutes since his debut. He was sidelined for the first six games due to a strained right oblique. "It felt good," Carr said of his debut, expressing a desire to get more involved in the game.
James, son of LeBron James, has also seen limited minutes with the Lakers this season, playing a total of 12 minutes across five games. He struggled during the preseason, and his assignment to the G League offers an opportunity to gain more experience and playing time. James has spent significant stretches in the G League during his first two seasons.
