Great Britain's 4x100m relay squads secured multiple gold medals at the European Championships, with the men's and women's teams demonstrating strong performances. The quartet of Jeremiah Azu, Zharnel Hughes, Ashleay Nelson, and Nadia Williams, alongside their counterparts in the mixed relay, brought home significant victories.
Dina Asher-Smith, a key figure in the women's success, earned her record-equalling seventh gold medal at the championships. This achievement marks a decade since her first gold, solidifying her status as a prominent athlete. Asher-Smith, who won the 2019 World 200m title, departs Birmingham with 22 senior international medals.
Fellow sprinter Amy Hunt also played a crucial role in the team's victories. Hunt, a Cambridge University graduate, had expressed her ambition to win all four sprint titles during the competition, aiming for an "iconic" status. She successfully rose to the occasion, particularly in her anchor leg of the 4x100m relay, battling Germany's Gina Luckenkemper.
Zharnel Hughes also achieved a significant milestone, matching British legends Matthew Hudson-Smith, Mo Farah, and Roger Black by securing his fifth gold medal at the championships. His performance contributed to Great Britain's strong showing across the sprint events, where they aimed to top the final medal table.
