Brewers manager Pat Murphy reached out to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman following his controversial comments about the Yankees that were captured on video during Milwaukee's World Series victory celebration.

Murphy addressed the incident on the latest episode of "The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman," stating that he called Cashman immediately after he became aware that his remarks had circulated on social media. "I picked up a phone and called Brian right away, and had a good conversation," Murphy said.

Murphy explained that his comments, made to Brewers player Jake Bauers, were intended as a private joke and were not directed at the current Yankees team. The remarks stemmed from a recurring conversation between Murphy and Bauers, who previously played for the Yankees, about players leaving for teams with larger contracts and potentially forgetting the Brewers' team culture. "I was just referring to the teams that have a lot of high-paid long-contract players... I used the Yankees because I knew Jake was with them before," Murphy stated, regretting that the private exchange was recorded.

Murphy was heard on the viral clip telling Bauers, "You’re going to be a rich f–ker. Just remember when you were on that horses–t Yankees team and you guys were all playing for yourself? Just remember, say, ‘This is the way we used to do it.’" Bauers, who played for the Yankees in 2023 before being traded to the Brewers in November 2023, appeared to react positively to the comments at the time, laughing after hugging Murphy.

While Murphy did not disclose the specifics of his conversation with Cashman, he described the Yankees GM as a "good guy."

The incident occurred on the field after the Brewers secured their first World Series title, when Bauers presented Murphy with the game ball from the final out.
