Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk took a step toward resolving his situation with the San Francisco 49ers by meeting with team officials Friday, accompanied by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Aiyuk expressed optimism following the meeting, telling reporters he had spoken with "big bosses, big business."
The 28-year-old receiver reportedly owes the 49ers approximately $13 million in forfeited bonus money. This financial aspect was likely a key point of discussion during the meeting.
However, Aiyuk's potential market once released by the 49ers does not appear promising, according to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. Fowler suggested that Aiyuk's options might be limited to a minimum salary contract, a tryout, or a practice squad position.
"The market is, at very best, a minimum salary somewhere or a tryout or a practice squad spot," Fowler stated on The Rich Eisen Show.
While the meeting concluded with Rosenhaus reporting "nothing to report," a decision regarding Aiyuk's release must be made by Tuesday, ahead of the NFL trade deadline. The ongoing negotiations and Aiyuk's handling of the situation may have already impacted other NFL teams' interest in acquiring him.
