Wales manager Craig Bellamy will continue in his role after a potential move to manage Championship side Burnley fell through. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) had been approached by Burnley regarding Bellamy as a successor to Scott Parker.
Bellamy, 46, held discussions with the Lancashire club, but the transfer is now understood to have collapsed. The reasons for the breakdown are not related to compensation for the FAW. Reports suggest that negotiations concerning Bellamy's backroom staff joining him at Burnley's Turf Moor stadium may have been a point of contention.
Bellamy previously served as a coach under Vincent Kompany at Burnley between 2022 and 2024, including a brief period as caretaker manager. BBC Sport first reported on April 30 that Bellamy was a leading candidate to replace Parker following his dismissal.
The former forward, who played for Manchester City, Liverpool, and West Ham United, was appointed as the manager of Wales in 2024. Under his management, Wales failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, suffering a penalty shootout defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Cardiff.
Bellamy's current contract with the FAW extends through 2028, encompassing the European Championships scheduled to be held across England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland.
