Bayern Munich player Jamal Musiala has been diagnosed with absence seizures, a neurological dysfunction, after experiencing fainting episodes in two consecutive matches. The 23-year-old midfielder announced his diagnosis on social media, assuring supporters that he is being well-cared for and remains optimistic.
Musiala first fainted during a friendly against RB Leipzig over the weekend. The latest incident occurred on Tuesday during a friendly match against Heidenheim, where he collapsed shortly after being substituted into the game. Club doctors attended to him on the field on both occasions, with teammates forming a protective circle.
Following the events, Musiala shared a statement expressing gratitude for the messages of support he has received. "I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary — but treatable — absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction," he wrote. "These can lead to the kind of moments that occurred recently, such as during the match against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they might look scary at first glance, but for me, they are currently just part of my everyday life."
He further stated that he is receiving excellent medical care and is "very positive" about his recovery. "Importantly, there is no further health risk involved," Musiala added. With clearance from neurologists, he expressed his personal wish to continue his daily life and pursue his passion for football, taking full responsibility for this decision.
Musiala walked off the pitch under his own power after the incidents, though he appeared disoriented. He conveyed that continuing to play and chase victories with his team, along with fan support, is what aids his recovery the most. He also requested privacy regarding the specific details of his condition, choosing to share them only with his inner circle, the club, and medical experts.
