Dallas Wings rookie Azzi Fudd claimed the WNBA 3-point contest title, scoring a rookie-record 30 points in the final round. Fudd's performance saw her make 21 of 27 attempts, including a moneyball shot, to defeat Bridget Carleton, who scored 19 points.
Moments after securing the championship, Fudd expressed her desire for a rematch with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. "Steph if you’re listening, I’ve been trying to get a rematch since high school,” Fudd said. “so maybe this is a sign to pick a time and a place."
Curry previously competed against WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu in a 3-point challenge during the 2024 NBA All-Star festivities, where Curry won by three points.
Fudd's 30-point final round is the highest score ever achieved by a rookie in the event, and she becomes the first rookie to win the contest. She will receive $70,000 in prize money.
Last year's champion, Sabrina Ionescu, was absent from this year's competition. Ionescu, who has won the contest twice and holds the all-time record with 37 points set in 2023, refuted a recent report that she declined an invitation. The New York Liberty guard stated she never received an official invite to participate.
