Football Australia is investigating allegations of match-fixing and illegal betting involving players registered with Adelaide's The Cove FC during the 2026 season. The club has stated that it is not under investigation and that the allegations concern a small number of individuals.
The probe, reportedly initiated by Football Australia's integrity unit, centers on claims of competition manipulation and players betting on their own matches, according to News Corp. No specific individuals or games have been publicly identified, and no findings have been announced.
The Cove FC chairman, Phil Hole, confirmed the club's cooperation with the investigation, stating, "The Club takes matters of sporting integrity extremely seriously and has cooperated promptly and fully with Football Australia since becoming aware of the allegations and throughout the investigative process." He added that the club respects the ongoing process and will not comment further at this stage.
Football SA has confirmed that Football Australia has exclusive jurisdiction over the matter and stated that the state body will provide assistance if requested. "Cove FC have been fully cooperative and supportive of the investigation by Football Australia," Football SA said. "While the investigation remains active, Football SA is unable to provide details about the allegations or the parties involved."
The Cove FC, founded in 1983 and based in Trott Park, operates programs for over 800 members, including senior semi-professional teams, as well as junior, women's, amateur, masters, and inclusive football.
"We remain firmly committed to the values, standards and sporting integrity that underpin our Club," Hole stated. "Our focus remains on our members, our community and building on the positive progress and success of The Cove FC."
