Aston Villa has lodged a complaint with refereeing authorities regarding recent rule changes that mandate players receiving on-pitch medical attention to leave the field for 60 seconds. This period effectively reduces their team to ten players.
This new regulation, which also states that a substitute cannot enter the field until a minute has passed after the player they are replacing has been substituted if the departing player takes more than ten seconds to leave, has drawn criticism from multiple Premier League clubs, according to Daily Mail Sport. The collective sentiment among these clubs is that current interpretations by referees lack sufficient judgment in distinguishing genuine injuries from time-wasting tactics.
Unai Emery's squad is seeking its first Premier League victory and goal of the current season, having recently secured a win in the Champions League against Club Brugge. The club made several high-profile signings during the summer, including Alejandro Garnacho on an initial loan from Chelsea, shortly after Morgan Rogers' transfer to Chelsea for £117 million.
Garnacho, who has played only 31 minutes this season, has yet to replicate his early form seen during his time at Manchester United. Emery commented on the player's situation, stating, "His attitude is positive. Now he needs time and hard work every day and he is showing it. It's most important to be consistent and demanding through his attitude, and then eventually he will achieve his best level."
