Arizona Cardinals tight end Travis Vokolek announced his retirement from the NFL at age 28 due to a serious neck injury he suffered during the 2025 season.

In a social media post, Vokolek stated that after consulting with multiple doctors and neurologists, he was medically advised to retire from professional football. The injury occurred during a game against the Indianapolis Colts on October 12, 2025, when Vokolek landed awkwardly after blocking during a kickoff.

"I am extremely grateful and blessed to have been able to live out my childhood dream of playing football at the highest level for the past three years," Vokolek wrote. "Football has taught me many life lessons and given me unforgettable memories."

He expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, trainers, and the Arizona Cardinals training staff for their support and care during his recovery. Vokolek also thanked his wife for her support.

Vokolek played college football at Rutgers and Nebraska before entering the NFL. He initially signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2023 but did not play in any games for the team. He signed with the Cardinals in December 2023 and played in eight games during the 2025 season, though he was not a significant part of the team's offense.
