Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes has re-established a significant championship lead after winning the Belgian Grand Prix. The victory, his sixth of the season, came while his teammate George Russell was forced out of the race following a collision on the opening lap.

Antonelli overcame a delay caused by a virtual safety car period to overtake Ferrari's Charles Leclerc for the win. Leclerc had been given an unexpected opportunity to contend for victory due to the virtual safety car intervention. The situation also impacted Lando Norris, who was aiming for a podium finish but was hindered after a penalty placed him 13th on the grid.

Russell's early exit from the race means he has dropped to third place in the championship standings, now trailing Antonelli by 50 points. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, who was involved in the lap-one incident with Russell, was promoted to second in the standings, three points ahead of Russell. Red Bull's Max Verstappen completed the podium in third place.
