Amy Hunt is the new European 100m champion after a dominant performance in Birmingham on Monday night, where she dethroned Dina Asher-Smith. The 24-year-old clocked 11.00 seconds to claim her first major individual title, with Asher-Smith finishing fifth.

"I was getting fed up of silver," Hunt said after the race. "It is so special to do this at home. I had such a big premonition, and I just love my job. This is what makes it the best. I just had such a magical feeling."

Hunt, who has previously won silver at the Commonwealth Games, expressed her satisfaction with the victory, stating, "My first gold. I think it was definitely time for an upgrade. I think this was definitely a coming of age for me here tonight, and I'm now kind of fully established. I'm a 100m medallist, I've got two 100m medals in the last two weeks, and one more sub-11 to boot. I'm very, very happy."

The British sprinter narrowly beat Poland's Eva Swoboda by two-hundredths of a second, while Belgium's Delphine Nkansa took bronze. Hunt was also part of the British quartet that won the 4x100m relay gold at the European Championships two years ago in Rome.

Hunt is set to compete in four events in Birmingham this week, expressing a desire to "win it all." Her recent success also includes a World Championship silver medal over 200m in Tokyo last year, suggesting further medal potential in the upcoming days.

Earlier in the championships, Ben Jefferies, Charlotte Henrich, Toby Harries, and Yemi Mary John secured a mixed 4x400m relay silver for Britain, finishing behind Norway, who set a new championship record.

Scott Lincoln finished fourth in the men's shot put, narrowly missing out on a medal.
