Amy Hunt, a 24-year-old Cambridge English Literature graduate, became the fastest woman in Europe on Monday night, winning the 100m final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham with a time of 11 seconds.
This victory marks Hunt's first major gold medal, having previously won English Schools races at the same Birmingham track. Standing at 5ft10ins, she is also considered a strong contender in the 200m and is seen as a significant hope for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Raised in Newark, Hunt attended Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School, the same institution that former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher attended. While at school, she studied chemistry at A-Level and played the cello.
Hunt pursued her higher education at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, financing her studies through earnings from track events and sponsorships. Upon graduating two years ago, she humorously remarked, "I just got one degree hotter."
Her social media presence reveals a multifaceted personality, with images showing her enjoying various aspects of life, including attending a Taylor Swift concert and posing with wine. Despite her demanding training schedule, she also curates her wardrobe and enjoys Italian art, currently living and training a short train ride from Venice.
Hunt's current motto, shared last year, is "Medals before men," but she added that her athletic pursuits have allowed her to "live the life of dreams."
