Alan Brazil, a stalwart of talkSPORT radio, is set to return to his presenting duties on Wednesday, approximately four months after undergoing a life-saving liver transplant. He will resume his regular role on the Breakfast Show alongside former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor.
Brazil, 67, disclosed in June that he had undergone the critical surgery, during which he was on the operating table for eight hours and his heart stopped before restarting. In a social media video update on Monday, he appeared relaxed and confirmed his upcoming return.
"I'm looking forward to Wednesday. Wednesday at 6am - talkSPORT, Brazil's back," Brazil stated in the video, while petting his dog, Hugo. He mentioned that he would take Thursday off for follow-up treatments but planned to be back on air Friday morning as well.
Brazil, who has presented the Breakfast Show since talkSPORT's launch in 2000, had his hours reduced in 2020. He had previously taken time off in March due to illness and again in January for similar reasons.
The former striker, who began his football career at Ipswich Town in 1976 and later played for Tottenham and Manchester United, won 13 caps for Scotland. He has spoken about missing his radio colleagues and listeners during his break. He noted that his voice and overall condition have been improving weekly, though he anticipates a full recovery will take several more months.
During his recovery, Brazil has also been following football news, expressing disappointment with the commercialization of the World Cup and offering his predictions for the upcoming Premier League season, naming Arsenal as the team to beat and anticipating strong campaigns from Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham.
He also mentioned that Ally McCoist, a regular on talkSPORT, is taking a well-deserved break after working as a pundit during the World Cup. Brazil concluded his update by expressing his eagerness to be back on air.
