The University of Akron football program is inviting a season ticket holder to step into the role of "offensive coordinator of the game" for the team's home opener on September 12 against Robert Morris. This unprecedented promotion allows a fan to collaborate with head coach Joe Moorhead on scripting the plays for the game's initial drive.
"We're always looking for new ways to bring our fans closer to the program," said Dr. Andrew T. Goodrich, director of athletics. "This is about giving one of our most loyal supporters a seat at the table, right alongside our coaching staff, on the biggest night of the season."
Coach Moorhead expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "This will give our fans a behind-the-scenes experience that has never been done before anywhere, so I'm excited to show them how to put together the opening script and see what they can do."
Existing season ticket holders are automatically entered into the contest. Additional entries can be obtained by referring new season ticket holders. The winner will be selected at random on August 19 and will work with Moorhead prior to the season opener to develop the opening drive's game plan.
In the previous season, the Akron Zips averaged 353.5 yards per game and 22.3 points per game, ranking fifth and eighth, respectively, in the Mid-American Conference. The team finished the 2025 season with a 5-7 overall record and a 3-3 record at home.
