San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has accused the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) of initiating a "smear campaign" against him on social media.

The dispute stems from Aiyuk's ongoing contract situation with the 49ers, which has seen him go AWOL from the team and express a desire to be traded. Aiyuk recently fired his long-time agent and publicly stated he would "tank" his own career to leave San Francisco.

In a post on his Instagram story, Aiyuk detailed an alleged conversation with the NFLPA after informing them he did not wish to appeal the team's decision to void his contract guarantees. According to Aiyuk, an NFLPA representative stated, "BA we're taking 30 mil out of your contract... do you want me to appeal it and try to get it back??" Aiyuk claims he responded negatively, stating "nah I'm just gone go to DC," referencing his reported desire to join the Washington Commanders.

He then alleged that the NFLPA responded, "okay.. we're gonna start a smear campaign to try and tarnish your NIL." Aiyuk's purported reply was, "okay.. that's gone make me sad but I'm still going to DC." The NFLPA has been approached for comment by the Daily Mail.

Aiyuk's recent online activity has drawn scrutiny. In addition to the contract dispute, he was the subject of an arrest warrant stemming from a December incident where he was reportedly driving over 100 mph. The 49ers placed him on the reserve list with a "left squad" designation around that time, with head coach Kyle Shanahan noting he had not seen Aiyuk for an extended period.

Further controversy arose earlier this month when Aiyuk shared disturbing videos on his Instagram story, appearing to show him feeding his dogs raw chicken and then kicking one of them in the head. The videos sparked backlash online, with some viewers condemning his actions. However, other users on social media suggested the footage was exaggerated and that Aiyuk was merely moving his dog away from a food bowl.
